Day 1- Working Through Your Feelings and Emotions

It’s Day 1 of the 21-Day Mental and Spiritual Health Series! I hope you will find this post uplifting, and please feel free to leave thoughts and questions in the comments section!

Every day we experience a range of feelings and emotions. Typically, they will be a mixture of both positive and negative.

How we interact with our feelings and emotions is an important issue. If we do not interact with them properly, they can keep us from living our best lives.

To put the concept as simply as possible- we have to work through our emotions. We cannot allow them to control us, but we can’t ignore them either.

It is normal to experience both positive and negative feelings and emotions. I would encourage you to pray for an abundance of the positive and for healing for the negative (a preview into tomorrow’s post), but we will have to experience both in our lives regardless.

When we experience our positive feelings and emotions- we should enjoy them and let them fuel our productivity. We should be encouraged and energized by them. The important idea is to live with these positive feelings and emotions but not allow them to significantly interrupt our lives and the performance of our responsibilities.

When we experience negative feelings and emotions, we should pray for the Lord’s assistance and guidance. However, if we are unable to receive immediate relief from a negative feeling, we have to set our minds to working through the feeling while not allow it to crush our motivation and productivity. Now, I am not saying that the negative emotion should be ignored. We should analyze the emotion or feeling as responsibly and spiritually as possible, and decide on a course of action to resolve the feeling. Once we have resolved the feeling, we should make a determined attempt to continue on with our day -even if the feeling tries to return. If the negative emotion is extremely weighty, it is likely a planned attack from the Enemy. It can be very difficult to push through a serious negative feeling or emotion. It is best to seek help when the negatives seem to be too strong for us to handle. For smaller, more common negative feelings, we should set our minds on not allowing them to hold us back from what we need to do and especially from being with the Lord.

Emotions and feelings, both positive and negative, are a normal part of everyday life. However, we must know how to live with them. The key is working through them- not being too distracted by them and not allowing them to crush our spirits.

Scriptures for Today’s Post

Romans 12:15 (ESV)- Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

Proverbs 15:13 (ESV)- A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.

1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)- Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Proverbs 4:23 (ESV)- Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Today I pray over the feelings and emotions that I am experiencing and will experience today. I pray for strength to work through them and to resolve them as needed. Lord, I ask for wisdom to know when to seek help for significant emotional burdens, and I ask that you help me to always know that I am held in your hands. I speak peace and joy into all of my circumstances and relationships, and I pray for guidance to walk in all of the Fruits of the Spirit. Thank you, Father, for the sacrifice of your Son, Jesus, and thank you for the salvation and prosperity that I received when He rose from the grave. You are a good Father, and I will trust you for all my needs.

In Jesus’ mighty name I pray,

I strongly encourage you to post thoughts and comments throughout the series! I would love the chance to talk with you about the information that I will be covering.

A New Year

It has finally arrived…

2020 was a turbulent and painful year for many, and, as we typically do, we look forward to a new year with hope and excitement. The start of this new year will not magically fix our troubles, but it does present us with an opportunity- an opportunity to choose a new mindset.

What will your 2021 mindset be? Will it be one that is easily influenced by your circumstances? Or will it be one with an unshakeable foundation of faith and determination?

I can not tell you what this year holds for us. But I can tell you this- God is in control. God wants us to prosper and live in health and wholeness. We need to hold on to His promises, and we need to speak those promises over our lives and over the lives of our loved ones. The enemy has been rampaging lately-and it is time for us to put an end to it. We need to pray, we need to believe, and we need to act in accordance with the Word of God.

I am praying for each of you, and I am believing for a great year!
